Vietnam Experience

Hoi An – Vietnam (June 2019)

I love Asia. I always did. It is by far my favorite destination across the Globe.

Within Asia, i’ve always been attracted to Vietnam. Been there 10 years ago and absolutely loved the experience. The landscape. The food. The people. Their history.

For our 2019 travel photography trip, we were in search of someone locally that could take us to unique places. To live unique experiences. And we got lucky to get in touch with Etienne from picsofasia.com. He is a Hoi An-based photographer and a passionate teacher.

Ahead of the trip, Etienne briefed us on the plan. Just 3.5 days. No tourists around. Special. And unique.

And when we got there in June… well he was not exaggerating on the Tourists part. I think i didn’t see any single one in the mind-blowing locations he took us to. You know what, we were in Hoi An-so, such a beautiful city, yet crowded with foreigners…believe it or not, i don’t have a single shot from the city in the full trip, as we really wanted to escape the crowds and immerse.

And we did so. Day 1, a walk around rice fields. Day 2, astonishing fish market at sunrise, with fisherman getting the catch of the night to the shore. And then full immersion, visiting people at their homes, talking and drinking (local spirits…) with them. Day 3, trip to the north of Hoi An, marvellous landscape, more unique immersions (i still happily remember the hotel in the middle of that train station with the train rattling every 30 min in our rooms J) Lots of talking with the locals. Finishing up again across rice fields the last day.

We got lucky and Adam and I got published on the Leica Switzerland blog again (https://blog.leica-camera.ch/fr/2019/09/12/au-coeur-du-palpitant-vietnam/)

I’m adding here a few pictures we took through the trip
